REPORTS ... REPORTS ... REPORTS
Benllech 25 v Flint 19
Benllech welcomed Flint to treetops for a must win game for both teams. It was the home team who started the brightest, the forward taking it to their opposite numbers. It wasn’t long before the home team got on the scoreboard, outside half Jon Snowden punishing a Flint infringement with an easy three pointer.
The forwards continued their dominance in the set piece which was rewarded when man of the match Paul Williams crashed over the whitewash for a well deserved try, converted by Snowden. Benllech may have expected an easy afternoon, this was not to be the case.
Flint capitalised on some indiscipline from Benllech, taking a quick tap penalty and scoring a try in the corner, unconverted. Benllech came back strongly and just before half time scored a penalty through Snowden after some good scrimmaging by the Benllech front row. Half time 13-5 to the home side.
Benllech again started the half brightly and after some controlled phase play Jon Snowden calmly slotted a drop goal. However Flint responded well and there back line continued to look dangerous. After some time spent camped in the Benllech half, Flint made the extra man and used the hands well for a deserved try, converted.
Again Benllech responded and after an infringement by a Flint player Snowden again took the 3 pointer. As the game entered the last quarter Benllech were reduced to 14 men when centre Dan Snowden was knocked unconscious. With no substitutes available Benllech would have to dig deep. Flint responded well and immediately put Benllech under pressure.
From a Benllech scrum the away side managed to get hands on the ball and got over the line, converted to make he match all square at 19-19. Benllech got an immediate response and from the kick off Flint were deemed to be holding on, penalty converted by Snowden. Benllech may have thought the tie was finished, however from the restart Benllech were deemed to be holding on, providing Flint with a lifeline.
However the high pressure seemed to be getting to the away fly half who dragged his effort wide. Benllech knew that they only needed to hold on to the ball to win. After numerous phases of play they were rewarded with a penalty. The impeccable Jon Snowden stepped up and took the three points. This proved to be the last kick of the game. Final score Benllech 25-19 Flint.

Dolgellau 27 v Ruthin 17
Following report kindly supplied by Ruthin RFC
In their first visit to newly promoted Dolgellau since 2008 Ruthin encountered lively and talented opposition.
As in previous matches Ruthin were slow to start and were 16 points down in the first 20 minutes.
The blues conceded two penalty goals in the first 5 minutes and then two tries in quick succession finding it hard to defend against the home sides open play, fast running and excellent offload in the tackle.
The visitors eventually found their feet and the last 20 minutes of the first half were much more even and after concerted pressure, good forwards play resulted in second row Chris Davies well supported by prop Dan Rafferty scoring a try which scrum half Deian Lloyd converted.
There was no further score and at the break the score was 16-7 to Dolgellau. After the restart the home side quickly widened the gap with a penalty goal but the Blues responded with wing Hugh Sharples racing upfield offloading to hooker Garry Teeson who in turn passed to wing Huw Parry for a fine try which Lloyd again converted.
Lloyd kicked another penalty goal for the visitors and the score narrowed to 17-19 to Dolgellau with a losers bonus point and a win in contention. At that point the game stopped for a few minutes as a hang glider landed on the edge of the pitch.
The home sided mounted a vigorous attack and the Blues defence on their line was at times desperate. Eventually they conceded a penalty goal widening the score to 17-22.
With 5 minutes to go the Blues were on the attack again but it came to nothing and the home side worked their way upfield with pick and run finally releasing for a Dolgellau back to run over the line for a nice try.
In the last minute the home side conceded a kickable penalty which would have given the Blues a losers bonus point but with kicker Lloyd now off the field they chose to run it but conceded a penalty themselves and the game was over with Dolgellau winning 27-17.
