Pwllheli 28 v 19 Mold
(h/t 21-7)
A fine day and another win for Pwllheli plus a bonus point from four touch downs - including a hat trick from outside half John Pugh and another try for centre Euros Thomas. Scrum half Nic Butterworth completed the scoring with four conversions. Nevertheless, the referee managed to amuse the crowd by issuing four yellow cards and allowed a try for the visitors which surprised even the visiting players.
Pwllheli opened the scoring on nine minutes when Pugh scythed his way through the Mold defenders. His second came fifteen minutes later when he received the ball from his half back partner following a scrum in mid field, dummied a pass to his centre and ran forty metres under the posts. The visitors' controversial try and conversion followed on thirty two minutes before another excellent score from centre Thomas who received a simple pass in mid field, on the ten meter line, and outpaced all to score between the posts.
After a lot of pressure from the visitors a missed tackle let them through for a try early in the second half when Pwllheli were down to 14 men. The conversion was missed. Pugh then completed his hat trick with another well worked try and with the score at 28-12, Pwllheli elected to use the remainder of the half to blend in new players. It was, however, the yellow cards for two old stalwarts (in the last ten minutes) which allowed the visitors in for a third try. This one was converted.
Both the Pwllheli Second XV and the Youth team had free weekends.

Menai Bridge 46 v Bangor 0
Bangor were demolished by a young Menai team which had full control of the scrums and lineouts thus providing the platform for a wealth of possession for their lively forwards and backs, resulting in 4 early tries and 4 more tries in the last quarter.
Hooker, Gareth Jones , Centre, Sam Williams, Lock, Rob McGuffie and a penalty try plus a coversion by Out-half, Dion McGrath provided Menai with a half-time lead of 22-0.
Bangor defended well earlier in the second half but pressure told and the floodgates opened in the final quarter. Menai Skipper, Dave Williams, with powerful running scored 3 excellent tries, McGrath improving 2 of them. Winger, Dafydd Ptritchard scored the final try sealing victory and securing Menai remain in top spot in Division 3 by a 2 point margin.

Ruthin 42 v Bethesda 17
Ruthin consolidated their position in the top half of the table with a good win against Bethesda at home in this Division 1 North tie.
The Blues had a good start with a fine try by wing Huw Parry, converted by centre Shay Owen who followed up with a penalty goal soon afterwards.
The home side went down to 14 men after a player was sin-binned and after some good play by the Bethesda fly half Matthew Parry the visitors scored a try. Owen slotted over another penalty and in the last five minutes before half time, Ruthin back to full strength, scored another two tries with full back Kyle Davies and fly half Wil Davies getting the honours and Owen converting one of them.
There was an infringement against Davies after he had scored the try which led to Bethesda’s No8 being red carded. The Blues were 25-5 up at the break and continued with their open attacking play into the second half and within 5 minutes of the restart hooker Garry Teeson with the speed of a back rather than front row crossed over for the bonus point try.
Centre Harri Morgan followed up with another try after a great run from half way to put the Blues 35-5 up. After the restart there was a scuffle which resulted in a second red card for Bethesda and a yellow for the Blues captain.
Ruthin dropped their guard and despite still being a man down the visitors scored two tries in quick succession one of which was converted putting the score at 35-17.
The game began to get scrappy but just before fulltime with the Blues back up to 15 men against the visitors 13, Kyle Davies finished off with his second try from a move started on the half way line by Huw Parry. The try was again converted by Owen leading to a final score of 42-17 to the Blues.

During the first quarter of an hour of this match, nant had several handling errors and a shock emerged after 19 minutes play when the Llangefni fly half, Carwyn Milburn, slotted over a penalty. Nant responded within 3 minutes when replacement wing, Ioan, powered over for a try by the posts. Aeron duly converted. The visitors’ huge pack created problems for Nant for the remainder of the first half and indeed, Carwyn brought them to within a point of Nant right on half time!
The second half begun in a similar mode and it took 23 minutes for the Nant pack to gain supremacy. They won a scrum against the head on the 22 and a mass of forwards fell over the try line. The Referee, could not decide that a ‘try’ had been scored and from the resulting ‘Scrum 5’ the Nant pack powered their opponents over the try line with Carwyn touching down. Aeron duly converted!
Llangefni’s No. 8 was yellow carded for a team offence and Nant (and Carwyn) took advantage by scoring a replica try to the Nant second one after 34 minutes. Again, Aeron converted. During the rest of the play, the Nant forwards were pressing almost continually and it was no surprise after 40 minutes when scrum half, Ifan picked up the ball from the base of a ruck and powered over for a try on the wing, This try secured the ‘bonus’ point. Aeron failed with the conversion attempt with the final kick of the match to give a final score of 26 – 6.
Next Saturday, the first team will be playing AT HOME against BETHESDA in the SWALEC Plate first round. The Youth team will also be AT HOME – against LLANIDLOES this time.

Abergele 6 COBRA 17
Abergele host this week to 2nd place COBRA on the back of a painful defeat away to Denbigh last week and wanted to prove a few doubters wrong. COBRA began the better of th two teams and unfortunately, things weren't made any easier when Captain, Joe Lavin, went off injured early on to be replaced by Alun Pritchard.
Although Abergele's defence was holding firm, some indiscipline was evident and COBRA took advantage soon enough, converting a penalty to take a 3-0 lead. Gele fought well and matched the powerful running with some big hits of their own, particularly through No 8 Anthony Tilley who made some bone crunching tackles throughout to stop COBRA's big runners in their tracks.
Gele were slowly working their way into the game, hammering away up front and making forays into the opposition half. This led to 2 penalty opportunities, but unfortunately both just drifted wide. Half time
found The Swordsmen trailing 3-0, but with positives to be taken and some structure sought from the game, Gele went back out with renewed vigour.
The Abergele pack took the game straight to their opposite numbers an although COBRA matched Gele's 1st half action with some ferocious tackling of their own, the sheer volume of attacks started to take their toll and one of their players received a yellow card following consistent team infringements at the breakdown. Almost immediately Abergele capitalised with a penalty from inside centre, Danny Lawrennce.
Gele continued to push on and took the lead with another well struck Danny Lawrence penalty. Abergele's backs were also coming into the game and some flowing moves instigated by centre Richard Medlicott and powerful line breaks by winger, and man of the match Chris Smith, gained significant yards, but couldn't be converted into points.
Prop, Alan Wraight had to go off with a rib injury and he was replaced by Dru Roberts. Gele were well in the ascendancy now and had COBRA pinned back in their own 22 for long periods, but despite repeated set
pieces near to the try line silly mistakes and poor decision making meant that they were unable to extend the lead any further.
Perry Clarke and Gethin Jones were brought on for Chris Marsh and Anthony Tilley respectively as Gele looked for the win, but it wasn't to be as with 5 minutes remaining, COBRA turned over a scrum inside the Gele 22 and from the resultant play, battered their way over the line and added the conversion against the run of play.
With Abergele now looking desperately for the win, COBRA broke down the blind side from a maul 30 yards out to seal the win and take away a 17-6 win. Gele's players were gutted after the game, realising that
they'd come so close to winning the game, but there were positives to be taken and the only way the errors can be rectified is for everyone to work hard together in training.
