BETHESDA 3 v NANT CONWY 8
Sgorwyr / Scorers:
NANT CONWY: Cais / Try: CARWYN ELLIS
Cic Gosb / Penalty: CARWYN ap MYRDDIN
BETHESDA: Cic Adlam / Drop Goal: IESTYN ROBERTS
Chwaraewyd y gêm hon ym Methesda gan nad oedd caeau Pant Carw ar gael (Gŵyl Gwydir). Diolch i gyfeillion Bethesda am gytuno i’r newid.Mewn heulwen braf a’r tîm cartref yn chwarae i lawr yr oledd, Nant ddechreuodd gryfaf am y 10 munud cyntaf ond, am weddill yr hanner, gwelwyd Bethesda’n ymosod. Yn wir, buont yn aflwyddiannus gyda thair ymgais at y pyst o giciau cosb. Daeth yr hanner heb i’r naill ochr na’r llall sgorio.
Pedwar munud yn unig o’r ail hanner oedd wedi mynd cyn i Iestyn Roberts gicio cic adlam i Fethesda. Deffrodd Nant wedyn ac yn dilyn cyfres o ymosodiadau ger llinell yr ‘How Gets’, llwyddoodd CARWYN ELLIS i dirio yn y gornel chwith ar ôl 12 munud o chwarae. Methwyd yr ymgais i drosi ond bu i CARWYN ap wneud iawn am hynny trwy drosi’i unig ymdrech am gic gosb ar ôl 16 munud. Bu i’r ddwy ochr gael cyfleon i ennill y gêm yn y munudau olaf ond 3 – 8 oedd y sgôr derfynol.
Sadwrn nesaf, bydd y tîm Cyntaf yn chwarae I FFWRDD yn Yr WYDDGRUG gyda’r ail dîm yn chwarae gêm ‘gyfeillgar’ gartref yn erbyn Dinbych (2).
This match was played at Bethesda as the Pant Carw pitches were not available due to ‘Gŵyl Gwydir’. Much thanks is given to Bethesda for agreeing to the change. On a really sunny afternoon and the home team playing down the slope, it was Nant who began the more brightly for the first 10 minutes or so. But, for the rest of the half, Bethesda were more prominent. Indeed, they were unsuccessful with three penalty attempts at the posts and the score remained at 0 – 0 at half time.
Only four minutes of the second half had elapsed before IESTYN ROBERTS converted a drop goal for the home side. This sparked Nant to life and it was no surprise when CARWYN ELLIS shoved his way over for a try on the extreme left after a series of attacks on the Bethesda line. The conversion attempt failed but CARWYN ap made amends four minutes later when he converted his one and only penalty attempt at goal. Both sides had opportunities to win during the rest of the half but the sizeable crowd present did not see any further score. This made a final result of 3-8.
Next Saturday, the first team will be playing AWAY again – at MOLD this time with the 2nd Team playing a HOME ‘friendly’ match v DENBIGH (2nds)

Llandudno 51 v Llangollen 22
Following report kindly supplied by Llangollen RFC
Llangollen did not get off to the best of starts to their Div 2 North campaign with a 51-22 loss away at Llandudno. The tower field men travleed to the coast for the first time in the club's history.
Early exchanges were equal with Llan managing a penalty from outside half Roger Chadwick, Llandudno missed 2 penalty attempts but soon made up for it when they crossed for 2 quick tries which looked to have stunned Llan.
The Tower field men though began to give their opposite numbers a torrid time in the set piece and some bullocking runs from centre Luke Pearson paid off when Chadwick again converted 2 penalty opportunities in quick succession to bring Llan within a point. More pressure from the Llan pack at scrum time gave Llan more good ball and Chadwick chipped through and Cameron Lumsden snapped up the ball and raced to the line and was tackled just short but cleverly off-loaded to centre Tim Pluves to score, Chadwick could not convert but Llan were looking good for their 17-10 lead.
Just before half time Llan were caught napping and the Llandudno outside centre breezed through the defence to score under the posts, this was converted and the sides went into the break level at 17-17.
Soon after the restart LLandudno were applying pressure to the Llan line and soon crossed the line for a try which was converted. This soon opened the flood gates and with Llan tiring fast in the heat Llandudno began to run riot and ran in a further 4 tries, 2 of which were converted and a penalty.
Llan's only reply was a fantastic run by centre Luke Pearson who burst through several defenders before showing the others a clean pair of heels to score, Chadwick could not convert and the game finished Llandudno 51 - 22 LLangollen.
Head coach Russell Penrhyn Jones said afterwards "we were really rusty and showed we are far from match fit. I am pleased that for the first 40 mins we were in this game and gave them a torrid time but we have to improve on that and take the huge positives forward".

Colwyn Bay 17 v Abergele 10
Following report kindly supplied by Colwyn Bay RFC
Despite outscoring Abergele by three tries to one it was the Bay defence that was provided the solid foundation to claiming the honours in this local derby clash in Division Two North.
The home side stared the stronger but failed to turn the pressure into points in the opening quarter. The scoring opened after thirty minutes when second row Dean Henson went over for the opening try which was soon improved when wing Ethan Morris crossed in the corner for the Bay's second touch down.
Abergele open the scoring in the second period with a try from flanker Llion Mortimer from a quickly taken tap penalty which was converted by full back Dan Lawrence. to reduce the home sides advantage to three points but that was short lived as within two minutes full back Jordan Sheridan touched down between the posts for outside half Spencer Lumby to convert and regain the ten point difference. The visitors finished the stronger but failed to break through the resolute Bay defence their final points coming with a penalty from full back Lawrence five minutes from time.

Ruthin 41 v Pwllheli 14
Following report kindly supplied by Ruthin RFC
Ruthin played this home fixture against Pwllheli in their new kit, supported by main sponsor Waterco Consultants with additional sponsors Henllan Bread and GJ Teeson, aiming to build on their bonus point win against Mold last week.
First point went to the Blues with a penalty goal from scrum half Deian Lloyd and then after a period of pressure in which Pwllheli conceded a number of penalties in their 22, second row Chris Davies nipped over for a try from a throw-in to the front of the lineout 5 yards out from the try line.
Shortly afterwards Ruthin went down to 14 men when a player was sin-binned and the visitors took advantage and pushed over for a try which they converted. At the break the Blues were 8-7 ahead.
Ruthin started the second half in determined fashion and widened the margin to 14-7 with two Lloyd penalty goals.
Pwllheli however got back into the game when Ruthin conceded a penalty on their 10 yard line and from the resulting lineout on the home side’s 22 the visitors scored a converted try.
With the scores even the Blues turned up the heat.
Pwllheli’s no 6 was sin binned and from the resultant penalty Lloyd kicked another goal. Some great attacking play followed and Ruthin scored two tries in quick succession from replacement James Grundy and centre Lewis Isaac, Lloyd converting one of them.
Play was then all one way for the rest of the match.
The Blues sealed a bonus point win with a try by replacement Shay Owen and then Davies got his second again converted by Lloyd leading to a final scoreline of 41-14 to the Blues.
Ruthin are set up well for the Caernarfon away fixture, on Friday 14th September, to be played at neutral ground Eirias Park, the best rugby facility in N Wales.
Both clubs are making the most of this fixture and mini rugby teams from the clubs will have a 10 minute match at half time. KO is 19:45 and a bus for players and spectators leaves Caeddol at 5:45pm.

Rhyl Rue Technical Indiscipline
Llanidloes 1st 34, Rhyl 1st 26
by Lee Blackmore
Rhyl could have and should have come away with the points against Llanidloes on Saturday but indiscipline in their loose play cost them as they gave away far too many penalties, although their effort and commitment could not be faulted.
Rhyl scored tries by Henry Roberts 2, Stuart Fellcrook and Nathan Roberts with Henry Roberts also adding three conversions.
Rhyl missed out on a losing bonus point as one conversion attempt came back off the crossbar.
Rhyls young side will be hoping to get back to winning ways this coming Saturday 15th Sept with a home fixture against newly promoted Llangollen.
