Rhyl entered two teams and the first 7 ran out worthy winners, beating all-comers, including Ruthin in the semi final 36-5 and Bala in the final 36-17.
Will Morecombe reports:
A surprisingly warm and sunny day saw two teams from Rhyl enter the inaugural Denbigh 7s Tournament. Playing in opposite groups the 1st seven won all five of their group matches against teams from Abergele, Telford, Porthmadog, Bala and Denbigh, scoring over well over 100 points in the process and conceding less than 25.
The second 7, under skipper John Richards, found the going slightly harder in their group with a number of their players having their first experience of the 7 a side game but nonetheless they acquitted themselves well, drawing with Abergele 1st 7 and defeating Bangor.
The 1st 7 faced Ruthin in their semi-final and, playing their best rugby of the day, won by 36 points to 5 with tries coming from Lewis Weaver, Henry Roberts, Ben Pamment, Will Morecombe and Jack Hughes. In the final they were to face Bala again and, although it was the latter who scored first, they soon asserted their superiority, eventually running out worthy winners by 36 points to 17.
