Pwllheli Youth 6 v Rhyl Youth 9 in cup semi-final at Nant Conwy RFC
Pwllheli 6 - 9 Rhyl (all penalties)
half-time score 3 - 3
Rhyl Youth made it through to the finals of the North Wales Youth Cup for the 4th year running as they edged past their Pwllheli counterparts in a low-scoring yet throughly entertaining game played at Nant Conwy RFC. The wet conditions made handling difficult for both sides and it was not surprising therefore that the only scores in the opening period were a penalty apiece. Rhyl's from Jason Blackmore, Pwllheli's from Osian Jones. The second-half was a similarly close fought affair with try-scoring chances being few and far between and with 5 minutes to go Rhyl found themselves ahead by 9 points to 6,Blackmore having added a further 2 penalties against Jones single response from Pwllheli.
However if they felt the game was won,Pwllheli thought otherwise as they launched attack after attack from inside the Rhyl 22, on two occasions being held up over the try-line,and were still looking for that elusive final score when the referee blew for the end of the game.
Rhyl Youth will face Ruthin Youth next Saturday, 28th May, at Denbigh Rugby Club in the final of the North Wales Youth Cup.
