Ruthin 14 v Bethesda 30 - North Wales Senior Plate Semi-Final
The match against Bethesda was a spirited affair with both sides playing good attacking rugby. Although territory and possession were pretty much even in the first half Bethesda were more clinical in finishing and together with some home side handling errors were able to put three tries past the Blues, one of which was converted.
The Blues countered with two penalty goals from full back Deian Williams, with 1 penalty from the visitors leading to a score of 20-6 to the visitors at half time. Early in the second half the Blues defended well against the visitors strong running and then reduced the arrears with another penalty goal from Williams.
Ruthin came under renewed pressure from the visitors but the defence held with some excellent scrummaging within their own 22. Bethesda however broke through from mid field avoiding a couple of tackles to get their fourth try and then went over again to put them 30 points up.
The Blues responded well and from a lineout on the visitors 22 the pack drove over the try line and hooker Garry Teeson scored.
The try was unconverted and despite continuing to attack the Blues could not increase their score and the game finished at 30-14 to Bethesda.
