Ruthin U14's toured Scotland last weekend playing at Scottish Premiership One club, Stirling County against both the home club and a visiting East Kilbride side

Under the Scottish code, at this level, a number of rule changes meant a different scoring system of 3 points for a try and 1 for a conversion.
Ruthin's first game against the hosts was a tough physical encounter played on a hard pitch in unseasonably hot conditions. Stirling Country started the brighter of the two teams going 10-7 by half time with Ben 'Greeno!' Green and James Wynn going over for Ruthin from the three quarters.
Ruthin showed the upper hand in a number of areas in particular when spinning wide and through second row Harry Buntrock with two steals from the Stirling line out.
It was a hard fought encounter which took its toll on the Ruthin side after half time with A number of players leaving the pitch through injury.
Both sides cancelled themselves out for long periods of play. A close contest but Stirling ran out winners 10-7.
The second game against East Kilbride saw Captain Jones sidelined and Liam Hayes lead the team out with his classic and inspiring fetch and carry flanker play. To a man Ruthin showed great hands and off loads with Ben Green on the score sheet twice in the first half (for his tour hat trick) to a one try reply from East Kilbride. Strong play in the loose from Ben Godfrey and clearing in the ruck from Tomos Davies and Rees Darvil won plenty of clean ball for halfback pairing Cameron Miller and Finn Nelson to exploit. A typically powerful display from hooker Harris Waseem was thwarted with a further injury just on half time.
Other mentions go to Huw Sadler, Adam House and Tim Hedley for their strong running and support in the back line and prop Jo Davies for his aggression at the breakdown.
The second half saw the gates open with tries from forwards George Keefe, Ilya Gavrilenko, Liam Hayes and 'Greeno' crossing the whitewash yet again. The final score ending 32-5 to Ruthin.
Presentations were made by Jones and Hayes following the game to their choice of their opposition man of the match and a commemorative plaque was also presented by the Ruthin coaches.
Two great games played in good spirit in the stunning surroundings of Stirling Country Rugby Ground beneath the towering Wallace monument.
The Ruthin RFC U14 coaches would like to thank the hospitality of Stirling Country for what was a highly enjoyable tour for all.
