Barry’n rhoi Bro ar y blaen ar ôl 3 munud gyda chic gosb mewn gwynt a oedd yn chwyrlio drwy’r holl gêm gan ei gwneud yn anodd i’r cicwyr. Daeth pac Nant i fewn i’r chwarae yn dilyn y sgôr yma ac roedd y cais , a sgoriwyd gan y rhif 6 (Robin Eidda) i Nant ond yr hyn a haeddwyd. Digon cyfartal oedd y chwarae am weddill yr hanner ond bu i rif 6 Bro (Elfyn Jones) wthio trosodd am gais ar yr asgell chwith ar ôl 35 munud. Sadwrn nesaf, bydd y timau Cyntaf a’r Ail, ill dau yn chwarae I FFWRDD ym Methesda.
This first match of the season turned out to be an evenly fought contest between two very similar sides. There was a swirling wind around the pitch which hampered all place kickers throughout the afternoon. Several of Nant’s players from last season have signed for RGC 1404 whilst the Bro players were not chosen for the North Wales side and played this match. Barry put Bro ahead after 3 minutes with a successful penalty.
The Nant pack then woke up and gained the ascendency and it was no surprise when Robin (Eidda) (Flanker) touched down for a try after 17 minutes play. The conversion attempt was missed and the remaining play in the first half was quite even between both sides. The Bro flanker (Elfyn Jones) scored a try on the left wing after 35 minutes play but, again, the conversion attempt failed. Each side had a player ‘yellow carded’ in the first half for technical offences.
The second half again was an ‘even’ affair but, after 27 minutes play, scrum half, Ifan equalised for Nant with a successful penalty kick. A red card was shown to one of the Bro players (a tip tackle allegedly) as well as another yellow card to another home player..
With 10 minutes remaining, Huw (James) scored the winning penalty as it turned out for Bro to give a final score of 11 – 8 and both set of supporters in agreement that either side could have won.
Next Saturday, both the first and second teams will be playing AWAY again – at BETHESDA this time.

MOLD 16 v RUTHIN 46
Ruthin got their new league season off to a flying start with a bonus point win away at Mold on Saturday.
Within the first few minutes the Blues set the scene for how the match was to go when flanker Ben Taylor won the ball and initiated a Ruthin attack resulting in centre Harri Morgan going over for a try converted by scrum half Deian Williams.
Shortly afterwards Williams increased the lead to 10 points with a penalty goal. Mold responded with some pressure leading to a converted try but that was to be their last score for sixty minutes as Ruthin, playing fast flowing rugby and with excellent forwards play, began to widen the margin.
Winger Huw Parry was next on the scoreboard with a try converted by Williams quickly followed a try by centre Lewis Isaac again with a Williams conversion. Although Mold tried to break the visitor’s grip the Blues defence was solid and just on half time Williams kicked another penalty after a Mold winger was sin-binned. At the break Ruthin were 27-7 ahead.
The Blues took immediate advantage on being a man up after the break with a try by flanker Ben Taylor again converted by Williams. The fast pace of the game continued and 10 minutes from full time Williams took a quick penalty 5 yards from the Mold line and nipped over for a try. Mold responded and were at last able to reduce the arrears with a converted try but the margin was not narrowed for long as replacement Ed Mason went over for a try converted by Williams in the Blues last attack of the match.
The final score was 46-14 to Ruthin and their best start to the season for some years and a good foundation for their home match against Pwllheli on 8th September.

Dolgellau secure morale-boosting away victory
By Dwyryd Williams | Saturday 1st September 2012
New season begins on high note
Newly-promoted Dolgellau made a promising start to their season with a hard-earned victory at Llangefni, a win that will give them a great deal of confidence for the campaign ahead.
Dolgellau played into a strong breeze in the first half and, within a few minutes of the kick-off, they found themselves in arrears as Llangefni opened the scoring with an excellent individual try. Following a poor clearance kick from one of the Dolgellau backs, the ball was gathered on the Dolgellau 22 metre line by Llangefni scrum-half, Mark Gray. Seeing a gap behind the advancing Dolgellau defenders, he chipped ahead, deftly gathered the ball and crossed for a fine try near the right-hand corner flag. The commendable conversion by outside-half Carwyn Milburn gave the hosts an early 7-0 advantage.
However, Dolgellau were not disheartened and from the re-start they advanced up field, assisted by a storming run from the base of the scrum by number 8, Llion Arwel Pugh. As the visitors pressed forward, Llangefni were penalised for pulling down a maul, allowing Dolgellau full-back Tom Roberts a relatively easy kick in front of the posts, which made the score 7-3. Soon after the restart a good run by right-wing Ian Jones-Morris led to a concerted Dolgellau attack with the forwards advancing steadily towards the Llangefni try-line.
Promising young flanker Ben Owen then drove towards the line but was held up short. It was left-wing Iwan Williams who surprisingly emerged with the ball from the ensuing maul as he plunged over for a try from short range. Tom Roberts` conversion gave the hosts a slender but well-deserved advantage. During this period the visitors played some very attractive rugby as forwards and backs exchanged passes in slick fashion. However, as the interval beckoned, Dolgellau were penalised for handling at a ruck, allowing Carwyn Milburn to level the scores with a well-struck penalty from 32 metres. During this half the Dolgellau pack had performed well at set scrums but with less success at the lineouts.
Dolgellau with the wind now on their backs began the second half in confident fashion as their forwards advanced down the right into the Llangefni half. The ball was then quickly recycled to prop Greg Smithies and then on to Tom Roberts who was able to cruise in for a well-worked try to the left of the posts. His successful conversion made the score 10-17.
However, as the half progressed the visitors seemed to lose focus, allowing Llangefni back into the game. During this period Dolgellau had a number of opportunities to clear their lines but several penalty kicks to touch fell short, giving the hosts the opportunity to counter-attack. As the pressure on Dolgellau’s defence increased they conceded a number of penalties, one of which was converted by Carwyn Milburn, bringing the hosts to within four points of the visitors.
Dolgellau however were able to raise their game in response to Llangefni’s challenge and launched another attack down the right flank. Llangefni managed to stem the flow but the ball was quickly recycled to the left, allowing flanker Cedri Williams to cross for a good try midway between the left-hand post and the corner flag. The conversion by Tom Roberts was well struck and straight between the posts, giving Dolgellau a healthy eleven-point advantage.
Llangefni continued to press however and Dolgellau’s discipline levels slipped. One Dolgellau infringement during this period allowed Carwyn Milburn an easy penalty opportunity in front of the posts, making the score 16-24. Llangefni sensed that the game was not out of their reach and they upped the tempo, taking a series of quick tap penalties. Dolgellau prop Huw Emyr was then yellow-carded for tackling a Llangefni player, not having retreated the required ten metres, with the result that the visitors had to play out the remaining ten minutes with fourteen men.
Although Llangefni pressed hard, they didn’t have sufficient guile to penetrate the stout Dolgellau defence and the visitors held out for a highly creditable away win. Dolgellau second-row Carwyn Hughes was nominated Man of the Match for his tireless work in all aspects of play.
