The Tongans are Coming…
“If you think we’re big then you should see the Tongans” was one of the departing comments from a Samoan player after last Friday’s game. The Samoans had just beaten a well drilled Canadian outfit 42-12 and were heading down the A470 to Cardiff, where they will face a Welsh team looking to bounce back after their Argentinian defeat.
Whilst Samoa leave North Wales on a high, Tonga will be coming into this game with a point to prove after losing narrowly 28-23 to Italy in their first autumn international. Included in their squad will be some names and faces you may recognise, such as Northampton’s 21 stone man mountain, Soane Tonga’uiha and Leicester’s try scoring second row, Sitiveni (Steve) Mafi.
Mafi has been an inspiration at Leicester in recent seasons having scored tries in both the Aviva Premiership and LV= Cup finals, winning man of the match in the latter.
As well as the huge-hitting Tongans facing a USA team that beat Russia 40-26 in their opening game, there will also be the opportunity to see Canada and Russia battle it out to see who has bragging rights across the Bering Sea.
To add to the day, RGC will take on Penallta in their 2nd home game of the season. RGC are currently sitting 2nd in Division 1 East and will be looking for maximum points to try and gain promotion in their first competitive season.
Kick-off for RGC is at 2.30pm, with Tonga v USA at 6pm and Canada v Russia at approximately 8.15pm. Gates open at Eirias Stadium in Colwyn Bay from 1.30pm so why not come down and enjoy a feast of rugby with an international flavour!
Tickets start at £11 for juniors and cover all 3 games or an individual ticket can be purchased on the gate for the RGC game only. They can be purchased from Venue Cymru by calling 01492 872000 or visiting the website.
