Two more WRU Junior Stars camps designed for children and young people aged between 5 to 14 years old were delivered over the first two weeks of the summer holidays.
More than 75 children and young people attended either 2 or 3 days at Ruthin RFC and Rhos RFC. The concept of the camps is to develop young players basic rugby core skills through
Technical skill activities and small sided games. However, the main emphasis is on fun and enjoyment.
Recently retired Dragons and Welsh Hooker Lloyd Burns was at Ruthin RFC and Sale and Wales scrum half Dwayne Peel attended the Rhos RFC camp. Both spoke about their time with the Welsh squad, and an insight into what it takes to become a professional rugby players as well as the training required when with a professional outfit. They also signed autographs, had pictures with the players and participated in some of the games.
Jim Salisbury, WRU Participation of the North East, would like to thank officials from both Ruthin RFC and Rhos RFC for their excellent support as host venues, Lloyd and Dwayne for making the young players day so memorable, the coaches, parents of the participants and most of all the children and young people for their excellent behaviour and desire to learn throughout the camp.
