Both players have spent the last two years being put through a thorough program with the WRU RGC ACADEMY at Rydal Penrhos school.
The WRU RGC Academy delivers an integrated Rugby program that covers all aspects of the modern game including Technical, Tactical, Physical and Mental skills. While Rugby has a clear emphasis it doesn’t overshadow the players educational ambitions as both are just finishing their A level exams at the school.
Both Rhodri (Originally from Caernarfon Rugby Club) and Dion (Originally from Nant Conwy Rugby Club) were identified and selected for the academy program from their displays for the RGC 1404 U16 Regional Age grade team and following strong performances with the RGC 1404 U18s have been invited into the preliminary U18s national squad.
Chris Horsman, WRU Skills Coach and RGC 1404 Head Coach, said: ”It's fantastic to see these players make such progress and proves that the academy program is working in North Wales. It's also great to see so many young players committing their future to the RGC 1404 senior team and bodes well for the future of North Wales Rugby”
Marc Roberts, the WRU Performance Manager for North Wales, said “It's really pleasing for me and all the Academy Staff to see these young players get the opportunity they deserve. The academy program is a tough process and it's clear that we are making progress with the majority of the U18s going straight into the RGC 1404 Senior.
Both Rhods and Dion deserve this opportunity and have worked hard in all aspect of their program to create this opportunity for themselves”
