Wales Women suffered a record 36-0 defeat to Ireland at Ashbourne yesterday in a re-scheduled RBS 6 Nations encounter
The original fixture was abandoned at halftime because of the freezing conditions. This time it was the Welsh team which froze as Ireland took command from the outset.
Wales weren't helped by a horrendous travelling schedule which saw them leave their Cardiff base at 5am. Their preparations were further hindered before the game when captain Rachel Taylor was banned for four weeks after a citing from last weekend's game against England was confirmed.
In sunny but cold conditions, Ireland got off to a promising start with No 8 Joy Neville touching down from a driving maul.
Playing with the wind, the Welsh enjoyed a period of dominance around the midpoint of the half and a yellow card for centre Grace Davitt left Ireland shorthanded.
Second row Sophie Spence caught the Welsh defence napping to run in a rousing try which Briggs converted from in front of the posts.
Niamh Kavanagh's third try in two games took Ireland to a convincing 17-0 lead at the break.
Alison Miller darted over for Ireland's fourth try of the afternoon soon after the re-start before hooker Bourke crashed over with Wales unable to halt another well-orchestrated Irish maul.
Full-back Ashleigh Baxter got over for a try in the corner with Briggs adding the extras from out wide to hammer home the final nail into Wales' coffin.
Ireland were left to celebrate their biggest ever victory over Wales at this level while the Welsh side were left licking their wounds as they prepare for next Saturday's match against Italy at the Millennium Stadium.
