Newtown 6 v Dolgellau 16 and Llanidloes 25 v Machynlleth 0
There was a cracking night's entertainment at The Rec in Newtown as Dolgellau kept alive their title ambitions with a hard-fought 6-16 away win.
Newtown opened the scoring after just three minutes with a Matthew Jones penalty and then an even period of play resulted with the visitors crossing for their first try from number eight Berwyn Hughes after 26 minutes of the half. Jones slotted over a second penalty for Newtown after 33 minutes of a half which had the strong wing at the backs of the home team.
The first score of the second half came after 11 minutes when man of the match Dewi Thomas crossed for Dolgellau's second try. A long period of gritty defending by the home side followed and they were still in the game until the last couple of minutes of the game when number 10 Gerwyn Thomas kicked two penalties in quick succession to prevent Newtown gaining a bonus point.
In the night's other game Llanidloes scored four tries in a comfortable 25-0 home win against Machynlleth.
