Bro Ffestiniog U14 v Dinbych U14 match report and how to vote for Bangor and Dinbych in the Junior Stars competition
Bro Ffestiniog U14s 0 points v Clwb Rygbi Dinbych U14s 51 points
Dinbych’s 14s braved the weather to make the journey to Blaenau Ffestiniog and notched up 50 points for the fourth time this season. A complete team performance saw the Dinbych side run in 9 tries without reply as the hosts struggled to match the visitors’ well drilled approach. Sion Spencer, Gruff Roberts and Jake Jones all bagged a couple of tries, with Dafydd Roberts, Harri Evans and Rob Parry adding one each.
Despite much of the game being played in a heavy sleet shower and on very wet ground, Dinbych stuck to their trademark brand of running rugby. The first try came after the team moved the ball through several phases and gave lock Dafydd Roberts space to run in for an opening try. Josh Morris’ conversion gave Dinbych an early 0-7 lead. Full back Gruff Roberts then showed his pace to cross for a second try. Dinbych put themselves firmly in command of the game a short time later as the ball was fed quickly wide for wing Sion Spencer to touch down in the left corner. Morris secured the extras. Full back Gruff Roberts then added his second with an excellent solo effort as he danced through the Bro defence to break away and score under the posts and present Josh Morris with one of his more straightforward kicks of the game.
Dinbych finished the half much as they had started it. The Bro defence struggled to contain the visitors’’ impact players with centre Bradley Reid and forwards Rhys Davies and James Fisher Jones prominent with their ball carrying. It was one such drive by Fisher Jones that saw him stopped just short of the line. Number 8 Jake Jones was on hand to clear up and cross for Dinbych’s fifth. Morris conversion brought the half to a close with Dinbych secure on 0-31.
In the second half, Bro regrouped and led by their captain Charlie Quaeck tried to claw their way back into the game. Dinbych fielded the home side’s attempts however without ever looking at risk of conceding a try. Harri Evans then bullocked over from short range to increase Dinbych’s lead. Jake Jones then scored his second try of the day to take the score to 0-41. Another forward was next to make the score sheet after wing Dylan Easton showed some excellent footwork to make good ground. The recycled ball reached hooker Rob Parry who powered over for a well-deserved try.
The last 10 minutes of the game was strewn with errors as the conditions started to tell on both teams, but Dinbych finished with a flourish. The forwards combined well to drive the ball forwards, before scrum half Iwan Johnson released his backs out wide and wing Sion Spencer ran in under the posts to give Dinbych an impressive 0-51 victory.
Dinbych hit the road again on Sunday as they travel to fledgling side Glyn Ceiriog, looking to repeat their Under 13 level win there last season.
