Nant secured their place in the quarters following a great 25-15 victory at Blaenavon.
They were favoured with a home draw and face familiar opponents in Div 1 West Central Maesteg Quins. The Quins made the journey to Pant Carw in the same competition in December 2016 when Nant won 10-0. Nant success on that day was based on a very strong and well organised defensive display to keep a clean sheet despite going down to 13 men after 2 yellow cards late in the game. The Jones boys were the heroes, Gwion with a try and Delwyn with a well struck penalty and conversion.
The Quins like Nant are enjoying a great season -unbeaten in all comps and are 5 points clear in a tough league. They have an impressive record of P12 W12 in the league scoring 46 tries which averages around 4 a game. They beat Treorchy at home 32-8 in the last round. Last time out -17th Feb.-was a 24-8 success at Tondu. All in all they will be formidable opponents as you would expect at this stage in the competition-a look at the other high calibre clubs who have made it to the quarters confirms the strength required and challenges to get to the final. The clubs left are Nelson, Ystrad Rhondda , Ystalyfera, Glam Wanderers, Brynmawr and Crymych (who knocked out Nant’s old foes Penallta). -
