Bala Youths 15 vs 18 Denbigh Youths
Last minute Hero Huw saves the day!
By Sam Jones | Sunday 28th October 2012
Clwb Rygbi Dinbych's Youth team snatch a late try to beat Bala RFC at Maes Gwyniad.
Denbigh maintained their good start to the season with a late and narrow victory over Bala. Playing the first half with the wind at their backs Denbigh opened brightly edging the early exchanges with their backs looking sharp.
It was from a promising back move after 15 minutes that Denbigh took the lead through a penalty by fly half Gareth Howatson after an off side decision. Better was to follow five minutes later when a sublime back move from their own half was completed with wing Jordan Wynne crashing over in the corner to score an unconverted try.
Whilst Denbigh dominated the first quarter it was Bala’s turn to dominate the second quarter with their big pack controlling the set pieces and gaining ground effectively from the breakdown. It was form a period of pressure in the Denbigh half that Bala scored a try when they broke loose following a maul 10 meters out.
Despite this setback Denbigh had scoring opportunities which went astray due to poor handling in midfield. Trailing by 8-5 at the interval Bala continued to dominate up front after the interval and deservedly went ahead within 10 minutes after the restart when they scored a converted try after driving over following a five meter lineout.
They then extended their lead to 15 – 8 ten minutes later after successfully kicking a penalty to maintain a stranglehold on the game. With the match seemingly ebbing away four replacements were introduced by Denbigh to freshen legs in the final quarter. This move appeared to give Denbigh new impetus widening play whenever possible and when full back Huw Alexander burst through the Bala midfield he was able to release wing and man of the match Garin Roberts to run in from 22 meters.
With the conversion narrowly missing leaving Denbigh two points adrift and only five minutes left Denbigh maintained their composure to sustain pressure on the Bala defence and when the ball was moved out wide yet again it was Garin Roberts’ turn to make the half break releasing Huw Alexander to return the earlier compliment and win the game in the final play.
This was a good result for Denbigh against a good and determined Bala team which has left the Denbigh Coaches with specific areas to work on in anticipation of Rhyl’s visit in a few weeks.

Colwyn Bay Youth 0 v Ruthin Youth 51
The Bay youth suffered a demoralizing home defeat at the hands of a strong Ruthin side who scored eight tries and dominated every aspect of the game.
With the inclusion of the experienced Matty Phelan, Lewis Stockton and Geraint Owen in the home squad The Bay found it difficult to retain enough possession to create any chances to break the Ruthin defence.

Rhyl Youth 8 v COBRA Youth 50
Rhyl Youth put up an excellent backs to the wall' performance before going down 50 points to 8 at home to COBRA. The mid Walian side were big and domineering and at one stage Rhyl were down to 12 men. But they played their finest rugby during this period with an excellent try from full back Matt Parnell, who started the move in his own 22, and then finished it by outpacing the cover defence to score. Seb Collinge kicked a penalty goal to complete Rhyl's scoring. Rhyl's youngsters stayed focussed throughout and played with enthusiasm and determination throughout, this spirit was best exemplified by Puneet Matharu.

Welshpool Youth 3 v Newtown Youth 50
Following report kindly supplied by Newtown RFC
Lack of match practice and a virtually new team counted for little as Newtown Youths demolished Welshpool Youths at Maesydre in this mid-week fixture.
Wednesday night’s fierce encounter saw Newtown play their first fixture of the season, their last match coming off the back of last season, a narrow defeat away to Llanidloes. The resulting score line proved to be a bit of a surprise, with Town having a number of new players on show in all areas of the starting fifteen. The end of summer saw a number of key players depart for university, meaning Town have had to wait to get back onto the pitch. But, after gaining able replacements from the under 16s, Newtown were able to take to the field once more. The young debutants were the difference on the night, as the away side ran in eight tries over the eighty minutes.
Newtown started the game on top, and their early pressure paid off as second row Sion Rees celebrated his first game for the youths with his side’s first try of the match. A further two tries from number eight Jac Thomas was followed by a Welshpool penalty, but two yellow cards for the home side meant they were unable to build on their three points. Newtown made the most of their advantage through prop Tom Andrew as his try saw Newtown end the first half with a comfortable lead, despite Town hooker Matteo Mahoney spending ten minutes on the sidelines after receiving the third yellow card of the match.
Newtown continued to dominate play as the sides returned for the second half. Once again the pressure paid off, as the Town backline linked up well, setting up wing Dave Powell to storm over the line.
Welshpool’s best chance of the match came minutes later as they tried to get back into the game. The bounce of the ball sent Welshpool through after a cross field kick, and would have given the home side their first five points of the match, if it wasn’t for a try saving tackle by wing Powell.
A great solo try from fly-half Tom Williams, who finished the night with five conversions, increased Newtown’s lead. Another debut try, this time from scrum half Elliot Pritchard, prevented Welshpool from getting back into the game. The home side unable to break down the away side’s defence, as the new look Town side celebrated their return to action with an assured display.
The upcoming talent can give Newtown great optimism going forward, and they will be hoping to build on their victory in the coming months.
Newtown: D Owen, M Mahoney, T Andrews, D Gibbs, J Owen, S Rees, C Bound, J Thomas, E Pritchard, T Williams, D Powell, M Jones, J Dean, S Jones

Bro Ffestiniog Youth 7 v Llandudno Youth 34
By Ian Kyffin | Friday 26th October 2012
Just shows what a full team can do!
Llandudno youth travelled to Bro Ffestiniog to play under floodlights in their first away game on Wednesday evening & it proved to be very rewarding.
With a full strength squad they won 34 points to 7, scoring 5 tries 3 conversions & 1 penalty kick to Bro's 1 try &1 conversion.
It was great to see the standard of rugby played by both sides in a very physical contest and the experiance of the RGC lads available lifted the whole team.
The squad of 19 all managed to get a run out , hopefully a good sign for future games.
Good luck to bro Ffestiniog player whole left the field of play with a dislocated shoulder.
It would be appreciated if you could email gwcymru1@aol.com any of the missing results from the list below so that the results can be brought bang up to date - many thanks in advance
